About This Item

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1957. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Fine. 8vo. Pp. 254. Maroon cloth with silver lettering stamped on spine. With "Paris" written on ffep, else a superlative copy with no other detracting qualities. Contains 15 short stories by the Irish writer, whose career migrated from the directorship of the Abbey Theatre to a professorship at Stanford. His short story "Guests of the Nation" inspired, in part, the screenplay for "The Crying Game." Several of his short stories were published in the New Yorker. Indeed, his work continues to resonate today. Dust jacket now protected in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
