About This Item
Port Arthur, Ontario, April 1, 1925. Very good. 21 cm folder with attached folded map. Partial colour map unfolds to 33 x 66 cm, showing locations of elevator companies, railroad freight sheds, shipbuilding companies, etc. Faint soiling to top of map. A little light wear to covers.
Lists James Whalen as General Manager. Whalen (1869 1929), a businessman and entrepreneur based in Port Arthur, was involved in forest industries and shipbuilding, as well as dredging and towing. From a modest beginning as a timber contractor in the 1890s, he built an impressive business empire in various Great Lakes marine businesses, and constructed the eight-storey Whalen building in Port Arthur in 1913.
