About This Item

Trilingual (greek-italian-english) exhibition catalogue. Soft cover, 29 cm, 252 pp., rich colour illustration; net weight 1125 gr.

The Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Molise, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Thessalonike and the Italian Embassy in Greece, presented this exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Thessalonike: a comparison of precious artefacts from the main archeological sites of Molise in Italy and those of Macedonia and Attica in Greece. Some of the more prestigious objects erre presented to the public for the first time: objects used at banquets and symposia (craters figured vases in precious metal to pour and drink, musical instruments), and in the ceremonies connected with the cult of Dionysus (marble sculptures and terracotta depicting the god of wine and the characters of his retinue, theatrical masks) found in archaeological excavations in Greece, as well as in Molise. The exhibition catalogue in three languages, italian, english and greek, contains topics relating to Dionysus and wine in ancient times: oldest evidence of domestication of the vine, use of wine in funerary rituals and religious ceremonies, sociality that develops around the consumption of this drink, most important maritime routes in the Mediterranean that used for the wine commerce.

// The shipping cost estimated by the system covers books weighing up to 750 gr; a surcharge depending on the actual weight and destination applies for heavier books.
