The fourth book in the Oz series written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The story begins with an earthquake opening up a crack in the earth and Dorothy and friends tumbling into a cavern. The work, Baum's shortest, went through innumerable printings, this one prepared for distribution by Sears and Roebuck, the cover illustration adapted from one of Neill's original color plates.
BIENVENUE & SCHMIDT, p. 37.
