Bound in gilt, canoe and map decorated cloth boards. Boards have light wear present to the extremities of the boards. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards very lightly rubbed and worn. Self-described as "an account of the discovery of the true source of the Missippi, together with views, descriptive and pictorial, of the cities, towns, villages and scenery on the banks of the river, as seen during a canoe voyage of over 3000 miles from its head waters to the Gulf of Mexico". Early exploration through Chippewa country, source of the Mississippi, Grand Rapids, Minneapolis.
