About This Item

San Francisco: Book Club of California, 1971. Edition limited to 500 copies printed by Grabhorn-Hoyem, 4to, pp. 84, [2] plus the two original leaves bound in at the end; 8 full-p. reproductions and a few smaller illustrations in the text; original blue cloth-backed boards gilt, red gilt morocco spine label; about fine. Comparison of the two leaves which, in this copy, list entries from "Anileness" to "Anniversary" (Johnson) and "Anguish" to "Annona" (Webster) (with many common words between them) shows both Webster's debt to Johnson as well as some of the fundamental differences between them. No less interesting is the fluid text of Littlejohn's essay.
