Pp. 368(last blank), coloured frontispiece, plus 6 black & white plates (including 2 maps); cr. 8vo; blue boards, decorated in black, with coloured oval pictorial onlay on upper board, edges of boards slightly rubbed and bruised; inked ownership inscription (dated 1931) on upper pastedown, school prize bookplate on upper free endpaper, the free endpapers slightly offset, scattered foxing; Humphrey Milford/Oxford University Press, London, 1927. New edition. *First published in 1907? With publicity sheet (printed in red & black, slightly torn) loosely inserted. Herbert Strang was the pseudonym of George Herbert Ely (1866-1958) and Charles James L'Estrange (1867-1947), who were both staff members of Oxford University Press. Together they wrote and edited numerous stories for boys and (under the name 'Mrs. Herbert Strang') girls.
