About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. In Elizabeth?s Drama of Exile, her topic was ?the new and strange experience of the fallen humanity, as it went forth from Paradise into the wilderness?. The peculiar, musical passages that follow actively define the despair and remorse of Eve, the sad conceit of Lucifer, and the saving might of attraction.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning born as Elizabeth Moulton Barrett, was a few of the highly distinguished British poets of the Victorian era, famous in Britain and in the United States for most of her life.

She was born in County Durham, Elizabeth Barrett composed poetry at around the early age of 6. The collection of her poems by her mother was some of the biggest compilations existent of juvenile by other British poets. When she was 15, she became sickly, having extreme headaches and spinal pain for the entirety of her life.

In the 1830s Elizabeth was familiarized to literary group through her cousin, John Kenyon. Her first set of poems for adults was circulated in 1838 and she authored productively from 1841 to 1844, composing poetry, translation and text. She had campaigns for the obliteration of slavery and her advocacy aided to encourage reform in the child labor legislation. Her creative works made her become an adversary to Tennyson as a contender for poet laureate after Wordsworth died.

Her collection Poems in 1844 made her very popular, drawing the fascination of the author Robert Browning. Their communication, courtship and marriage were pushed through secretly, for her father might disapprove of her husband. After they were married, she got no inheritance from her father. The lovers settled in Italy in 1846, where she would reside for her whole life. They had one son, Robert Barrett Browning, whom they nicknamed Pen. A set of her most recent poems was printed by her husband just after she died.
