Germany, 1790; Original 18th century hand colored copper engraving of Ochotona, commonly known as a Pika or Whistling Hare, a diminutive member of the rabbit family looking much like a small mouse and native to the cold climates of Eastern Europe and parts of Asia. Identifying binomen engraved in the plate at bottom: "Der Wachtelhase, Lepus pusillus Gmelin. Lin." Circa 1790. Artist not identified. Plate number engraved at upper right (177). Very finely detailed and colored. Archivally hinged and matted with 100% rag museum board, paper size 4 3/4" x 7 3/4", matte window 4 1/4" x 5", outside matte dimensions 10 1/4" x 12". Ready for framing. Fine condition, no chips or tears, all coloring brilliant. A sparkling plate of a charming and reclusive little creature. Rare.

New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1918. Later Edition/Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. In green pictorial cloth with green illustrations and titling. Light edgewear to spine ends. Owner's name, date, address and ""yosemite - 43"" to top of ffep. A small rectangular stain to bottom of ffep where something was laid in place for a while, also tape stains(not scars) to top and bottom of endpapers - assuming where protected jacket rested. Bug hole to top inside of front hinge and rear hinge is beginning to split at top, but still solid. Interior and exterior very clean otherwise. Jacket is very nice with just a few small chip/nicks to spine ends, corners and top edge of flaps, and two 1/2 inch closed tears to top of rear panel and top of rear flap. Later edition/printing based on date of book advertised on rear flap and owner's date - 1925 at the earliest. Three period photos from previous owner laid in.

Charles Dickens' Bleak House complete in four volumes. Part of Sheldon's "Works of Charles Dickens. Household Edition." One B&W illustration in each volume with tipped-in protective tissue. Black cloth (faded) with gilt lettering and publisher medallion on spine; gilt medallion on front. Deckled edges. FON on FFEP of each volume.Covers are faded and bumped, with bumping and wear on the top & heels of spines. Pages are age tanned with occasional stains. All volumes are cracked at half-title page.

1856. Second royal octavo edition. Very good +. The royal octavo edition of Birds of America as first published in 1840-44, and was followed by several more editions. This plate is from the second edition, published in 1856, distinct for the colored backgrounds. They are also a little different in that one species is pictured rather than a grouping of birds. This work was done to make Audubon's prints, highly in demand, more affordable for the general public. These hand colored lithographs were printed by J. T. Bowen. This plate still has the tissue guard. This plate shows the adult and juvenile male, and the female on a branch of Caprifolium Flavum.

Front lower edge of volume I shows very slight bump. Bindings and text blocks are otherwise tight, bright, crisp, and clean with no ownership markings or bookplates. Appear unopened / unread. Bound in full (genuine) blue leather with hubbed spines. Embossed in 22kt gold on the spines and front and back covers. Heavy duty binding boards. Printed on acid-neutral, archival paper.
