New York: D. O. Haynes & Co, 1915. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good-. Quarto, 8pp. of text, plus 152pp. of ruled leaves. First leaf used, ELSE BLANK. In the publisher's 3/4 maroon over red-brown cloth, about very good, with wear to the corners and spotting to the cloth, but clean, crisp, and bright internally. Much more interesting than many business-specific ledger books of the period, this one contains 8 pages of printed text containing the full text of the 1914 Harrison Narcotics Tax Act (a. k. a. Opium and Coca Leaves Trade Restrictions Act). Clearly the brand new law (passed at the end of the year right before publication of this volume) was making a number of druggists nervous, considering the new regulations on the products that they sold on a daily basis, and thus this publisher of ledger books felt compelled to include the law in the otherwise blank ledger books. Though there is only one page of recorded sales, the contents are quite impressive. Nearly all sales are for codeine, morphine, and cocaine. OCLC notes one single physical holding, at U-Wisconsin. Another dozen holdings are all digital. An excellent volume of American drug and pharmacological history.
