New York: Museum of Modern Art, 1970. First Edition. Hardcover with dust jacket. Fine/Very Good. E. J. Bellocq. 4to. Pp. 88. Frontis. photo of the photographer's desk. Illustrated with a further 33 fine gravure black & white photo reproductions by Meriden. Brown cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, ochre endpapers. Crisp and square, leaves bright. In the photo-illustrated dust jacket with price intact on the front flap: spine sunned and head chipped. Reproductions of printing-out-paper prints made by Lee Friedlander from glass negatives discovered in the photographer's desk after his death in 1949. The haunting, tender photos in the MoMA exhibition and this elegant book still inspire wonder and admiration.
