London: Barmerlea Book Sales Ltd., 1940. First edition. Limited to 200 copies. Number in pen No. 46 to colophon. Hardback blue cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Neat ex libris to front pastedown. Front free end paper has at some point been detached, and is now held in place with archival tape. 61 pages of text and then a separate plates section where all plates are protected by (some slightly darkened and some loose) tissue inserts. Clean copy of a scarce item. 290 x 225 mm (11½ x 8¾ inches). . From the bookplate, we can see that this book belonged to Helge Loewenberg-Domp. She was a German musician and music (piano) seller of Jewish parents who escaped to the Netherlands before the war. She later went into hiding with her family, and survived the war. (Her brother died in the camps). She was one of the first to import Japanese pianos to the Netherlands. In the 1970's she was knighted to the Order of Orange-Naussau. Three years later, she founded the Helge Domp Foundation for Music for young musicians. She died in 2021.
