About This Item
Bookplate measuring approx. 4 cm by 7.5 cm affixed to a detached front cover of an unidentified book. The bookplate belonged to John Julius Pringle Alston of Charleston, South Carolina, who fought in the U. S. Civil War serving as a 1st Lieutenant of the South Carolina Artillery based out of Fort Sumter and Battery Wagner. Alston died of Typhoid in 1863. The bookplate is in good overall condition with moderate spotting/toning. Rare.
