"This small book was undertaken largely for collectors, with the primary purpose of sorting out the types, origns, and periods of those slipwares that are found in Canada. It is not meant to be either the last word on slipwares or a scholarly discourse. In this survey of Canadian pottery, it has been essential also to study wares of non-Canadian origin which were most commonly imported over the centuries. I have included a number of photographs of fragmentary or restored archaelogical pieces, for many of the slipwares once in common use - whether imported or Canadian - are rarely if ever seen in collections today. I have tried simply to explore, identify, and illustrate the basic types of slipwares that were produced in Canada, and explain a little about them.", from the Preface.
