The author was a participant in the events of early Texas beginning in 1835 as a volunteer to fight for Texas independence from Mexico and was later taken captive by the Mexican Army. The second part of the book is The Young Explorers which is a quasi-fictional book for young boys that involves Duval's return to Texas after independence where he visits the Alamo and heads to the plains and Indian confrontations on the Llano. The appendix contains a list of all the men under the command of COL J.W. Fannin in 1835-36 at the Battle of Encinal del Perdido and the Battle of the Mission del Refugio. A clean very presentable copy.
