About This Item

San Francisco: Book Club of California, 1964. brochures inserted in mailing envelope. Book Club of California. 8½ x 10 inches. brochures inserted in mailing envelope. 9 4-page folders. Printed in an edition limited to 1000 copies. (Olmsted p.53.). A fine set.

A complete set of this series of Keepsakes from the Book Club of California. Major Bache was a lighthouse inspector on the west coast in the 1850s; as he inspected the lighthouses, he made sketches of them. Two of the drawings are now in the Smithsonian; the others have disappeared and have been reproduced from photographs. These lovely keepsakes thus provide a fascinating and otherwise unavailable record of the early California lighthouses. The series was edited by John A. Hussey and printed at the Tamal Land Press. Each folder contains a tipped-in colored reproduction and text written by authorities on these lighthouses. Addressed to Carey Bliss.

About Oak Knoll Books/Oak Knoll Press

Oak Knoll Books was founded in 1976 by Bob Fleck, a chemical engineer by training, who let his hobby get the best of him. Somehow making oil refineries more efficient using mathematics and computers paled in comparison to the joy of handling books. Oak Knoll Press, the second part of the business, was established in 1978 as a logical extension of Oak Knoll Books. Oak Knoll Books is a thriving company that maintains an inventory of about 20,000 titles. Our main specialties are books about bibliography, book collecting, book design, book illustration, book selling, bookbinding, bookplates, children's books, Delaware books, fine press books, forgery, graphic arts, libraries, literary criticism, marbling, papermaking, printing history, publishing, typography & type specimens, and writing & calligraphy - plus books about the history of all of these fields.
