Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Sunning to spine. Gilt lettering is bright and clear.

Sixth edition; impression not known. In good black cloth boards, gilt titles to back strip. The covers are firm and quite clean; slightly shelf-cocked; corners and spine ends bumped and a little frayed. Unmarked black end papers. Tinted red cut edges. The text block is tightly bound and straight; the last pages of the Index and the prelims are foxed, especially the title page and frontispiece and tissue guard. The main text pages are clean and in very good condition and excellent for age. No dedications etc. Overall condition is good.

Fair. This 1870 hardcover's hinges have been stressed, but the pages are still tight. The text appears unmarked. The cover is worn.

There are small nicks to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Light sunning to the spine. Light rubbing to the corners and the edges of the spine. Ink inscription to the front end paper, dated October 1869. Several uncut pages. Clean and tight. A very good copy of this antiquarian book.

Pages: clean, bright, tight, yellow eps; PO stamp front ep, PO info inked/penciled ffep, inscription penciled sfep, a.e. tanned, front hinge just starting. Cover: brown, beveled boards, gilt titles spine; substantial shelfwear, extremities well worn, several sm holes/tears and 1" chip from spine.
