New York:Scribner, Armstrong and Company, 1874. First Edition Thus. hard cover. Fair/No jacket. New York:Scribner, Armstrong and Company. 1874. 1st US combined edition. viii+323pp+4pp ads. Illustrated. Hardcover. Brown decorated boards soiled, rubbed and shelfworn with wear along edges, spine ends worn and chipped, and edge points worn to boards. Page edges soiled. Internally, with black endpapers free of previous owners marks or signatures. Paper slightly age-toned with occasional smudges scattered throughout. The frontispiece is almost detached, just secured at the bottom by a thread. Pages 142/143 have darkened from some newsprint, left in place far to long. The binding is holding however is quite cocked, with both hinges cracked. Several signatures while not detached, seem to be working on it.
