About This Item
Wilsonville: Beautiful America Publishing Company, 1990. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good; shelf wear, closed tear at corner. Scarce in this condition in first edition hardcover. A beautiful book for fans of Victorian architecture. A catalog of Victorian homes on the East coast, this work features over 180 full-color photographs of late nineteenth-century houses. In addition to photographs, the architecture and history of each house is described in detail. Profiles include such houses as the one in Savannah, Georgia that served as a residence for General William Tecumseh Sherman in 1864, with its marvelous Gothic details; the Queen Anne houses in New York; and The Gingerbread House in Georgia. The photos and descriptions provide insights into the history of the United States through its architecture.
