About This Item
London: William Heinemann, 1929 First edition, first printing. Publisher's coated blue cloth, ruled in blind and stamped in gilt; in the original pale blue-gray dust jacket, sparsely lettered in black. A fine copy; in a near fine dust jacket with some toning to extremities. This short play tells the story of Easter, through a singing cast of "Persons and Spirits". Notably, though Masefield frequently used Christian themes and imagery in his plays throughout the 1920's, performance opportunities were limited by a longstanding ban on the use of biblical figures in performances until 1928.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine.
