About This Item

Toronto & Vancouver: Clarke, Irwin & Company Limited, 1972. Book. Illus. by Robert Hines. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A former director of the Northeastern Wildlife Station in New Brunswick, Canada, Wright tells the story of an animal that "has long been thought extinct by many, and has therefore remained unprotected by the passage of laws." In 2018, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officially declared the animal as extinct, but skeptics remain, your humble bookseller being one of them, because one sunny afternoon in June of 2014 one crossed my path -- literally -- on the soon-to-be-opened Marysville Bypass (Route 8). To paraphrase what weirdos of all stripes have always said when confronted with statistics and generally accepted facts, "It may be extinct, and it may not, but I know what I saw." Deep green leatherette w/gilt spine lettering, 180 pages (including appendices, bibliography, index), illustrated w/drawings and photographs, dust jacket illustration by James Loates. Bubbling to covers (mainly to edges), lightly tanned page edges, previous owner's name/city/date to front pastedown, in rubbed dust jacket w/impressions, a bit of chipping to corners/spine ends, a couple of small punctures, short edge tears. Dust jacket now in protective mylar sleeve..
