About This Item
New York: Basic Books Inc., Publishers, 1965. First edition of Nelson Mandela's classic account of the struggle against South Africa's apartheid system. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, small name to the front free endpaper. Jacket design by Parke P. Bowman. Introduction by Oliver Tambo. Edited by Ruth First. Rare and desirable. No Easy Walk To Freedom contains Nelson Mandelas famous speech at the Rivonia Trial; now regarded as among the greatest speeches ever given. His closing statement is captured for the first time in this volume that states, "During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against White domination and I have fought against Black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and achieve, but if need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."
