About This Item
London: Jonathan Cape, 1929 Book. Illus. by Frontispiece Portrait. Very Good. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Light brown cloth on boards. No writing or damage. The author is clearly aware of philosophical concerns associated with John Locke, and later, Ferdinand de Saussure and Charles Sanders Peirce - what is called 'semiotics' today. Evidence of this fact is contained in dozens of letters written to churchmen and professors between 1879 and 1891, together with their replies, which are reproduced here in part. Others of this author's titles, Significs and Language, and Links and Clues, appear on a want list but do not appear in their original editions as being for sale. The book we offer is the original edition of 1929 in very good condition, the only book of this title found. 292 pp..
