About This Item
Chelsea MI: Sleeping Bear Press, 2003. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/very good +. Gijsbert Van Frankenhuyzen. Unpaginated; large format slim HC, pictorial boards in matching unclipped DJ, beautiful condition. On November 9, 1975, the lake frieghter Edmund Fitzgerald left Superior, Wisconsin with a load of taconite for a routine crossing of Lake Superior. A heavy storm overtook the Edmund Fitzgerald and the ship sank with all hands. The ship's bell was recovered in 1995 and replaced at the site of the wreck with a replica bell engraved with the names of the 29 crew members. Kathy-Jo Wargin's simple but moving text, and Gijsbert Van Frankenhuyzen's atmospheric paintings, recreate the story for young readers. Suitable for older children to adults.
