New York: The Modern Libray/Random House Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Gray cloth covers with gilt decoration and lettering on green to spine and front cover. Slight wear to the boards in a price-clipped dust jacket with edge wear and rubbing wear. Previous owner name on the title page, otherwise no writing or marks. Protected now in a Mylar archival sleeve. No date, but the latest copyright date shown is 1946 (Charles Francis Adams) and the only Modern Library copyright date is 1931. This is a later printing. 517 pages with Index plus a listing of Modern Library titles. Verso of the jacket lists 408 Modern Library titles. 0.

Synopsis

The Education of Henry Adams is the autobiography of the Bostonian Henry Adams. As he approached his seventieth birthday when "the mind wakes to find itself looking blankly into the void of death," Adams wrote and privately printed 100 copies of his "Education", a reflection on the incredible events of the 19th century. Adams meditates on his sense of disorientation with the scientific and technological expansion over his lifetime. After his death the book was commercially published, going on to become a best-seller and to win the Pulitzer Prize.
