From the rear cover: "The Scriptural Tract Repository was established in 1865, with a view to the publication and distribution of attractive, earnest, practical, Scriptural tracts, pamphlets, books, and periodicals, adapted to meet the approval of those who love the Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity, and are 'looking for that blessed hope.' Entirely separated from sectarian control and denominational interference, without funds, endowments, or pledges of assistance, it was originated in simple reliance upon the promises and providence of God, in the hope that sinners might be saved, and believers edified, through the proclamation of the words of everlasting life. The special necessities of ministers, Bible students, experienced believers, young disciples, aged persons, little children, unconverted people, seamen, inquirers, skeptics, the inmates of hospitals, penitentiaries, etc., have been considered, and publications prepared to meet their needs. Though the entire printing and publishing establishment was burned in the Boston fire, November, 1872, the work has gone on, until about four hundred tons of earnest, Scriptural, evangelical literature have been sent forth.
