London, Smith, Elder and Co., 65, Cornhill, M.DCCCLXII (1862).. TITLE CONTINUED: with Numerous Wood-Engravings by Joseph Bonomi and Notes by Samuel Sharpe. FIRST EDITION 1862, small 4to, aproximately 235 x 180 mm, 9 x 7 inches, illustrated with 100 albumen stereoscopic mounted photographic views, on original mounts with printed captions, small woodcut illustrations in the text, photo No. XLV1 used as frontispiece, pages: xii, 1-238, bound in publisher's gilt decorated cloth with bevelled edges, gilt decoration to spine and both covers, all edges gilt, original yellow endpapers, the binding is Gutta-Percha (glued not sewn) and the gatherings can part with use. Cloth faded and rubbed with some loss to gilt (see images), slight wear to head and tail of spine, small crack to bottom of upper hinge neatly repaired, slight edge wear, front inner paper hinge strengthened, some minor chipping to outer edges of 3 pages and 2 mounts with photos, mostly to lower corners not near images or text, pale foxing in varying degrees to margins of mounts, 7 with heavy foxing, including frontispiece and last photo, 22 with light foxing and 69 with slight foxing, many without, pale foxing to title page, blank side of mounts and many pages.
