A collection of eight (8) printed written examinations given to new teachers in Vermont between 1873 and 1877, testing their knowledge in core subjects such as arithmetic, geography, grammar, and American history. Interesting from a modern point of view, to see what has (or has not) remained expected of public school teachers in the United States. Each examination begins with a list of rules (e.g. no textbook use allowed). Also included is a printed prospectus for the State Normal School in Randolph, Vermont, pitching the school to prospective teachers as a desirable place to work.
