About This Item
A Spanish-language account of time among the Otomi of the Valle del Mezquital, Estado de Hidalgo. Not a formal ethnography, but rather a first-person account by Elisa Osorio Bolio de Saldivar who, influenced by musicologist Vicente Mendoza, composer Carlos Chavez, and others, went there to study Otomi music. Here she recounts her observations: devotees of Santo Nino, the market and school, the curandero, fiestas del Senor de Jalpan, Otomi theater, and so forth. 1943. Edicion numerada de 200: numero 31. Colofon. Very hard to find. Purchased used at Libreria Navarro, Mexico, D.F. in 1980s. Pages cut. Pencil on cover and first end paper. (See photo) Interior and binding fine. In stock. Usually ships in three days.
