About This Item
London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1884. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Undated but published in 1884. This is a rare true first printing with no additional printings listed on copyright page and no "Thousand" shown on title page. Very good in blue boards with black and gilt titles and illustration. Some horizontal creasing to cloth of rear board; interior clean and tight with a touch of foxing to a few pages. Illustrated by many wood engravings, plus three full-page woodburytypes (showing electric lamps in an English home, certainly some of the earliest photographs of interior electrical lighting). SIGNED "With the Author's Compliments" on the half-title page. Hammond was an electrical engineer who established some of the earliest public electricity systems in England.
