This article by Alexander Dallas Bache (1806-1867) was read before the Society on Nov. 16, 1832. Bache was the great-grandson of Benjamin Franklin and the grandson of Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Dallas. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he taught engineering there and became a second lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He was a professor of natural philosophy and chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania from 1827 to 1843 and also served as the first president of Central High School of Philadelphia from 1839 to 1842. Rare/collectible.Ex-library with a sticker on the front (photo 2). The binding is good and the book is clean inside with nice photos throughout. However it looks like a page has been torn out before the title page (see photo 3).
