About This Item

London, 1762. Copper engraving, 29.5 x 94 cms, black and white, closed 13cm tear, one or two marginal nicks, blank verso with ink library stamp (and cancellation): Washington University Libraries. From the first volume of Stuart & Revett’s ‘Antiquities of Athens’. Stuart was justifiably dubious about the commonly accepted attribution; the ruins have since been identified as those of the Library of Hadrian. Print
