About This Item
London: Cassell and Company Limited, 1930. Second printing of the "Cheap Edition," hardcover, 252 pages. A VG+ or better copy in original gilt lettered and decorated black cloth, hinges and binding firm and tight, no tears, no stains, overall a lovely bright, unworn copy. A volume in the "Cassell's Shilling Novels" series, which are usually found with cracked hinges, however this copy does not have any cracking or splitting at the hinges. In a VG+ dustjacket which has a few short edge tears but no paper missing. The jacket's colour front panel illustration by Philip Simmonds shows a startled woman reading a mysterious note, the text of which is illustrated next to her (looks nice under a clear mylar protective cover). Printed price of "1/- net" (one shilling) on the jacket spine. A scarce book in a devilishly scarce dustjacket -- and both book and jacket are in even scarcer, superior, condition.. Illus. by Philip Simmonds (dustjacket).
