An incredible first edition of Alciati's 'Emblemata'. This 1549 edition includes countless woodcut-engraved devices. These illustrations helped inspire thousands of imitations throughout Europe on secular and religious themes. The commentaries on each emblem were written by French scholar Claude Mignault. Devices depict pastoral scenes, cathedrals, military, mythological creatures, and more.
