About This Item
Quarles Emblems London.: Chiswick Press/ Whittingham/ Jennings, 1818. pp319 with gorgeous b/w plates. 24mo. leather with bright gilt. This is a very nice edition of Francis Quarles major work, "Emblems, Divine and Moral." It was printed in London in 1818 at Chiswick Press by C. Whittingham in 818. 319 pages with many black and white illustrations. It is full leather with bright gilt. It measures three-and a half inches by five inches. The covers of this book were once disbound, and someone took some parchment paper and made hinges which they glued inside onto the front and back marbled endpaper areas. The result is functional which allow the user to view the book easily and which are fairly sturdy with normal careful reading. There is no looseness in the binding. There are two very small pencil notations. There is some minor foxing, mostly noticeable on some back endpapers. There is also a very minor faint stain in front that looks like it may have came from some book leather dressing. Other than these things, the book is in clean, very good condition.. Good.
