New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1950. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 374 pp. The author René Ray (1911-1993) had an earlier career as an actress. She appeared in one of the first British talkies, High Treason (1928), and made her stage debut in J. B. Priestley's play, Bees on the Boat Deck. In films she appeared with John Mills and Laurence Olivier among others. In time, Ray become more interested in writing than in acting. Her first novel Wraxton Mayne was published in 1947. A TV series The Strange World of Planet X (1956) was based on one of her novels. In 1975, she became the third wife of Earl Middleton, thus becoming Countess Middleton. Tape residue on back free endpaper. Price-intact dustjacket.
