New York: Henry Holt, 1946. 446 pp, 8vo (8 9/16" H) - blue cloth with black title block, gold lettering and decoration on spine, gold decoration on front board. B&w drawings, maps/battle plans. The author weaves contemporary memoirs, letters and newspaper articles together "to reflect a British point of view (of the Napoleonic wars) which may be described as not so much insular as insulated. If Napoleon plays a relatively small part in it, it is because with relation to the war the English were fighting, he originated nothing, and was strategically as well as politically only the heir of the Revolution." Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown, tiny surface paper pull on front endpapers, soft crease on half-title page, browning to edges of textblock - darker on top, small water mark on top of textblock, light edge wear, slight fading on parts of front board, fading/light browning on spine, bump to top of spine, wrinkling in cloth on top half of rear board, very light rubbing..
