Hardcover Book without Dust Jacket in Fair Condition. The dust-wrapper(missing) blurb advises that this novel may well be the 20th Century WAR AND PEACE as if written simultaneously by Thomas Wolfe & William Saroyan. Unruh, a general's son, was an officer in the German army until 1912, when he left to pursue his writing career. A novelist, poet and dramatist, he was a fierce opponent of the Nazi Party and wrote several works warning of the consequences of Nazi dictatorship. One of the things he said about this work is that he wanted to show other the horrors of Nazism and to point out the possibility of its eradication. This book is worn, in black cloth with red titles and decoration, spine head and heel scuffed, edges rubbed, front has discoloration. Sewn binding is tight, with cracked hinge at pp92-93 and backstrap is loose from the crash. Former owner name on endpaper. Pages toned, unmarked, no underlining or highlighting. There is a spot on pages 442 and 443. 540 pages. 8vo. 1947, Storm Publishers.
