Engel's Chop House was founded in 1848 by the English actor Harry Clifton. It swiftly became one of the gastronomic jewels of the city, and was later taken over and expanded by Adam Engel in 1880. A valuable view into a specific social moment in the history of New York. 12mo (7.75" by 5.25"), pp. 12, photo-illustrated, stapled in original textured paper wrappers, upper wrapper printed in gold.
