"Being the original 1928 book with Sir Patrick Abercrombie's Epilogue, a new Preface by the Author and a contemporary introduction by Lewis Mumford." 'England and the Octopus' heralded the modern movement to preserve the environment, decades before that word had come into common use. Other earlier writers had campaigned against the destruction of our heritage: but this was almost the first book to which people paid the faintest attention. As a result it has become a classic.
