About This Item
London: Kegan Paul, Trench Trubner and Company, 1895 4to (31 cm), frontispiece in color, [8], 67 pp, 20 plates protected by interleaving paper. Contemporary vellum-backed boards, printed label at the head of the spine, heavy handmade paper, untrimmed fore and bottom edges (binding slightly soiled and rubbed, internally fine). This is copy no. 30 of 300 printed. The book serves as a survey of English illumination and book-decoration from the 8th to the 15th century. Sir Edward Maunde Thompson (1840-1929) was a British palaeographer and the Principal Librarian and first Director of the British Museum.
