Gilt spine lettering a tad rubbed; mild jacket edgewear and age toning, with spine faintly age toned; small ownership signature on front pastedown. A wonderfully tight and attractive first edition, first printing, of Volume III in editors R.P. Wilson and Bonamy Dobree's "Oxford History of English Literature" series -- with four series titles marked as "Published" on rear jack panel and three marked as "Published" on inner flyleaf. From the collection of Frank S. Hanlin (1924-82, bibliographer and University of Iowa special collections director), with several small inked margin notations by him.

Synopsis

C.S. Lewis provides a comprehensive critique on a diverse range of literature from late Medieval Scottish poetry to the prose and the poetry of the early Renaissance. This work excludes the work of drama, rather focuses on an expansive range of literature and poetry.
