About This Item

London England: Longmans, Green and Co. Very Good/No Jacket. 1948. New Impression. Cloth. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall Octavo Hardcover Hardcover. English Social History. A Survey of Six Generations. Chaucer to Queen Victoria. Previous owners name tippexed out to inside cover. Slight sunned top edge. Green cloth with gilt lettering. Social history might be defined negatively as the history of a people with the politics left out. It is perhaps difficult to leave out the politics from the history of any people, particularly the English people. For the social scene grows out of economic conditions, to much the same extent that political events in their turn grow out of social conditions. Without social history, economic history is barren and political history is unintelligible. 628 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.) .
