About This Item
Poetry by Poet Laureate, Alfred Tennyson.
Good condition. Cover is green leather over boards with gold gilt embellishments on front cover and spine. All page edges are also gold gilt. The corners and spine edges show some wear. Gray/Green end papers. Front cover is partially torn at spine, but is still very much attached. Front end paper has a 1 inch closed tear.
19 Black and white Tissue Guard Engravings by John La Farge , E. Vedder, W. Hennessy, and F.O.C. Darley.
Inscription in ink at front: "Presented to Mip Del E. Cleyhom (?) December 25th 1865. A merry Christmas, and hhappy New Year. Your's as Even; D.S. Cleyhom. There is also a round stamp by E.E. Lewis Att'y at Law Sioux City, Iowa. I found it a bit odd - the copyright was 1864, the inscription is dated 1865, and the publisher name on the title page has 1866.
Four pages, including the title page, are loose at the front of the book.. The binding is tight on all other pages. I believe there is one tissue with a fold and tear, but most are in good condition. There is some age spotting and tanning.
