About This Item
Edinburgh: Sutherland & Knox..., 1853. FIRST EDITION. 8vo, pp. xi [xii blank], 228, original embossed cloth; all leaves before title-page and after index removed, shaken in casing, spine snagged. In some ways, Macvicar's book is a useful guide to Political Correctness in the mid-nineteenth century, and the appendix on "The Philosophy and Science of Common Sense" is entertaining.
