Head and tail of spine and edges of wrappers lightly chipped. Sticker ghost to both wrappers. Small custom bookplate to front pastedown, else internally clean with light age-toning. Very good condition First edition with Footnote of Carter and Pollard's investigation into the Thomas J. Wise forgeries. Wise, a bibliographer and book dealer, forged nearly 100 pamphlets of celebrated authors, and after lending legitimacy to these forgeries in his bibliographies, sold them to unsuspecting clients. Carter and Pollard, leading antiquarian book dealers, became suspicious and after intensive investigations, exposed many of Wise's forgeries. A fascinating look at one of the most infamous cases of biblioforgeries. Nice to find the two books together; the "Footnote" ads additional forgeries to the list contained in "Enquiry". 1934
