About This Item

UK,slim 12mo p/back,1st edn.[Originally first published, UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,H&S (London),1930.Part of the PAN 'G' series ran from 1963-66 using numbers G596 to G717.This the first PAN,UK p/back,1963 (unabridged) from that series's run - reprints followed in 1965 and 1968 using the same artwork but different serial numbers.] VG.No owner inscrptn and no price removal from card cover. Bright, clean, glossy, red background with bright colour pictorial artwork by 'd.f.m', illustrated front cover with black lettering,a concave spine with NO discernible reading creases - red with white letters and yellow+b/w publisher logo at foot, rear cover with red background with trademark 'Saint' stick man and white lettered story blurb; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,rubbing,creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks, tears or splits present. Miniscule rubbing to all corners, top+bottom,of spine; several wrinkles in a small corner crease to top, front corner, consecutively and concomitantly affecting the subsequent pages.in fainter, deceasing degree upto pp16 (prelims+pp7-16),a tiny crease to front, lower corner - rear corners unaffected. All edges slightly and ubiquitously aged/toned; contents generally bright, tight and clean with little page-edge toning and no other intentional or otherwise accidental corner creases to other pages' corners - would appear unread, apart from my own collation.UK,slim 12mo p/back,1st edn,7-190pp [paginated] includes author's foreword.3 stories comprising 14,10 and 10 chapters respectively; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, contents list/table,and to rear of book and reverse of last unpaginated page,a publisher's advert.
Described hard, but fairly and honestly; much better than it reads or sounds and still an acceptable example for 'Saint'/PAN collectors. The author's 3rd book featuring Simon Templar.
ENTER THE SAINT. There is only one Saint - Simon Templar, buccaneer in the suits of Savile Row,amused, cool, debonair, with hell-for-leather blue eyes and a saintly smile. Chief Inspector Teal would have given ten years' salary for the privilege of leading the Saint gently by the arm into the nearest police station; a number of gentlemen in the underworld would have given ten years' liberty for the pleasure of transporting the Saint to the top of the chute of a blast-furnace and quietly back-heeling him into the stew; but somehow the Saint contrived to go his pleasantly piratical way unscathed.
Simon Templar -The Saint, daring, dazzling, and just a little disreputable. On the side of the law,but standing outside it,he dispenses his own brand of justice one criminal at a time.In these three early adventures, the Saint's reputation starts to rise,as he tackles thieves, smugglers and killers.
In 'The Man Who Was Clever' he outwits Edgar Hayn,a drug smuggler who thinks he's smarter than everyone. In 'The Policeman with Wings' he stays one step ahead of Inspector Teal in the hunt for diamonds on Dartmoor, and in 'The Lawless Lady' one of the Saint's gang helps him deal with sea-faring swindlers, only to fall in love.
