Folio (17"x12"). 177pp. Purple & multi-color hand painted silk covered boards, stab bound and tied with braided silk ribbons in purple buckram-covered solander box with twill ties. Silk worn through at spine extremes and corners (1" of board exposed in 4 places), silk split for 2" over each joint from edge. Upper spine cracked across, through board. Previously owned by The National Geographic Society, gifted by the Japanese Embassy in 1930 with inscription to ffep, blindstamp to title page and ex-lib card catalog envelope to rear pdep. Light wear and light scuffs to lower board of solander box. Numerous illustrations including tipped-in, original woodblock print by Hiroshi Yoshida.
