London: T. Bensley for R. Bower, 1804. The Chapel print shows many men and women praying toward the open doorway of the Chapel with two men inside, and two guarding the entrance. A print from "Views in Palestine, from the Original Drawings of Luigi Mayer, with an Historical and Descriptive Account of the Country and Its Remarkable Places".
Luigi Mayer [1755-1803] was an Italian-German artist and one of the earliest and most important late 18th-century European painters of the Ottoman Empire. His "Views in Palestine" were made into aquatints with the help of T. Milton.
Aquatint with plate mark 15 1/4 x 12", on paper 18 x 12 3/4", very good condition with delicate color and detail.
