About This Item
Pat. Wogan, Dublin, 1771 Sewn wraps, printed front cover, 8 1/4 x 5 inches, 39 pp. About good (moderate soiling/browning, covers; ruffling, corners; pages mostly clean). Scarce. "The Sixth Edition, with considerable Additions." Satire in verse. "A mock correspondence in verse between Howard and Faulkner, the printer, imitating "the alderman's mode of literary composition." Per the Dictionary of Irish Biography, "Among his other publications from the period were An epistle to Gorges Edmond Howard, esq. (1771), a satirical poem with Notes Explanatory, Critical, and Historical, which parodied the style of the notoriously pedantic and self-important printer George Faulkner." "In 1771 appeared Jephson's satiric epistle, purporting to have been written by Gorges Edmond Howard, a dull legal compiler and unsuccessful dramatist, to George Faulkner (16991775), a Dublin publisher, noted for his pompous and pedantic verbosity." (1722RO002). Soft cover. Good.
